A YEAR OF PRAYER

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION AND PRAYER
The parish theme for the new liturgical year is “Prayer". On the first Tuesday of each month, the Church will be open for prayer and adoration from 10:00am – 7:00pm. (Adoration is not exposition or benediction; it is simply adoratory prayer before the Blessed Sacrament contained in the tabernacle, and it is powerful.) Come pray for the parish and for all parishioners; pray for peace; pray for an increase in priestly and religious vocations. We are asking a commitment of one hour per month.

FIRST SATURDAY DEVOTIONS AT I.C.
Join us each first Saturday at 8:15am for Mass, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Rosary, seasonal litany, and Benediction each First Saturday of every month beginning at 8:15 a.m. in Church. Mass, Exposition, Rosary, Seasonal Litany, and Benediction are currently celebrated Mondays through Fridays beginning at 8:15 a.m. in the Chapel, any time there is not a school mass.

VOCATION VIEWS
As we begin this Lenten season we are reminded of the everlasting covenant God made with us.  Renew the promise you made with God.  Believe in the Good News!  (Psalm 25)

SEWING GROUP
The Sewing Group was very busy in 2005: they donated 50 handmade quilts to the VA Medical Center, over 50 hats and booties to Children’s Medical Center, hats and mittens to St. Vincent Hotel, and plenty of goodies for the Christmas Bazaar and Easter Bake Sale.  They can always use more willing hands and nimble fingers!  If you would like to help sew, call Virginia Wehkamp at 256-0812.

FREE SPIRITS
The Free Spirits have a busy calendar coming up!  The next meeting will be held at 1:00pm on Mar. 8 in MSH.  All those over 50 are welcome to join us; bring your pennies for Polish Poker, and a snack to share. The Free Spirits Officer’s party will be after the 5:00pm Mass on Saturday, Mar. 25 in MSH.  Tickets are $10 each for dinner and entertainment.  The trip to New Bremen is scheduled for Sunday, Apr. 2.  The bus is full, but tickets for the play are still available at $8 each. If you made bus reservations, the cost is $23 for both the transportation and the play.  You can pay for all of these events at the March 8 meeting.  For more information call Mary Umina at 2547-4405.

EVERYDAY EVANGELIZATION

Frances Franchina will lead the third in the “Through the Tummy to the Heart” series on Wednesday, Mar. 8 in the Rectory at 6:30pm.  The Annunciation of the Birth of Jesus Christ: Waiting for Jesus Then and Now will focus on the representation of The Annunciation Altar Piece by Flemish artist Robert Campion.  For more information, and to register, call Frances at 901-4475.

OUTREACH

The Outreach Committee will sponsor blood pressure screenings this weekend in the South Cry Room after all masses.  This is an easy and FREE way to keep an eye on your health!

School News

SCIENCE GRANT FOR ICS

The Center for Catholic Education has recently launched a new program to promote Catholic Education in the Miami Valley.  For the first time ever, it has awarded several grants to local Catholic schools as part of its Catholic Schools Partnership Program (CSPP).  This initiative pairs faculty from the University of Dayton with faculty in local Catholic elementary or high schools to enhance an area of the school’s choosing.

ICS is the recipient of a grant awarded for 2006.  The science faculty of ICS, Mary Cordonnier and Mollie Mallin, will be working with two science education specialists from UD to further enhance our science program. Ms. Mallin, along with Mary Ellen Dillon and education majors from UD, will offer an exciting new after school mini-course entitled “Exploration in Ecology.”  Interested 6th, 7th, and 8th graders will meet once a week for four weeks in the spring for ‘hands-on’ investigations.  As part of the inter-parish partnering, upper level students from St. Helen’s will also be invited to register for this mini-course, which will be taught in the ICS Science Lab.

BINGO NEEDS YOU!
Volunteers are needed to sell Instants at BINGO on Friday nights. This program benefits the school’s budget and helps with school expenses. Crew members volunteer one Friday evening per month. Call the ICS Office at 253-8831 to volunteer. Your volunteer time is vital to BINGO! Remember: BINGO is now smoke-free!

There is no automatic registration if you attend mass regularly, or even if your children attend Immaculate Conception School or Immaculate Conception Religious Education Classes. If you have any questions please call the Rectory at 252-9919.
