A YEAR OF PRAYER

FIRST SATURDAY DEVOTIONS AT I.C.
Join us each first Saturday at 8:15am for Mass, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Rosary, seasonal litany, and Benediction each First Saturday of every month beginning at 8:15 a.m. in Church. Mass, Exposition, Rosary, Seasonal Litany, and Benediction are currently celebrated Mondays through Fridays beginning at 8:15 a.m. in the Chapel, any time there is not a school mass.

VOCATION VIEWS
Jesus continues to draw those who believe.  Our world is hungry and thirsty for the Bread of Life.  Consider sharing your faith.  Consider ministry in the Church.  (John 6:41-51)

SUMMER HOURS
Through August 25, the Rectory Office will be open 8:00am – 12:00pm Monday through Friday, and by appointment.
 
FESTIVAL NEWS
  • Festival construction: join us Monday- Thursday this week, 6:00pm – 9:00pm, and come help set up the booths that make our festival the best around!  Call Ralph Gutman at 433-1705 or Tom Dempsey at 252-2250 for information.
  • The Flea Market is taking your donations every day this week 10:00am – 6:00pm. All items must be in working order (nothing torn or soiled, please!), and computers and typewriters are not accepted.  The Flea Market will open at 12:00pm on Friday, Aug. 17.  Hope to see you there!
  • Make a basket for the Silent Auction/Basket Raffles!  This booth needs all kinds of baskets made up; they can be any theme you wish.  For information call Shannon at 429-4714.
RCIA/ADULT EDUCATION
RCIA will resume on Sept. 10, 2006, 9:30am – 10:30am.  Keep an eye on the bulletin for more details.
 

FORTIETH ANNIVERSARY
On Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, Bishop Kaising will be here to celebrate mass at the 40th anniversary of the church dedication.  A short reception follows in MSH; a luncheon follows given by Serra International at the Engineers Club for priests and religious.  If you would like to join them, the cost is $15/person.  Call Katherine at 252-9919, or drop your reservation in the collection basket or at the Rectory during business hours.
 
MINISTRY DAY
It’s Restructured!  Calling all involved with parish ministry!  Ministry Day has taken on a brand new format.  Your presence at Ministry Day is vital to the overall spiritual well-being of parish ministry.  Refresh your skills, your commitment, and your enthusiasm!  Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, Sep. 6, 7:00pm—8:30pm.  See you there!
 
PARTNERING
Coming to Dayton on Wednesday, Oct. 25 is Sr. Helen Prejean, Catholic activist who works in prison ministry, and central figure in the movie Dead Man Walking.  Sr. Prejean has also written The Death of Innocents, which discusses the treatment of the imprisoned poor.  In preparation of her visit, the St. Helen Book Club invites you to join them in the Big Catholic Read and discussion of that book.  Discounted copies may be prepaid and ordered through Immaculate Conception ($11.20, payable to Immaculate Conception) no later than Aug. 27.  The discussion will be held on Thursday Oct. 19 at 7:30pm in the Smith Building at St. Helen’s.  For more information, call Debbie Goldberg at 253-2647.


IT’S A GALA!
Parishioners…Save the date Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006.  The Braaksma Family will sponsor the Gala Fun and Fundraiser “Night Under the Stars” for Immaculate Conception.  There will be a dinner, dance, and silent auction. At the Doubletree Inn.  Watch the bulletin for more details (and in the meantime, enjoy the Festival!)

CONTINUED RESTORATION FUND UPDATE 

Great News!  Private donors have offered us a challenging opportunity: for every dollar donated by the parish, they will match it dollar for dollar, up to $25,000.  This will make a big difference in funding our next project, which is replacing the church sound system.

EDUCATION FUND UPDATE

The Education Fund currently has a matching grant program.  For every two dollars donated to the Education Fund a generous donor will match it with one dollar.  Thank you for your support and generosity to the Education Fund.  The monies currently being collected will allow IC to continue to have tuition aid available for our qualifying families in the future.

The Restoration and Education Funds are “restricted”: they do not reflect nor impact the regular operating budget which depends on your weekly tithe contributions to the Church.

School News

FISH FRY 2007
Calling all fish lovers!  We need  Fish Fry new co-chair in place before school starts.  Please call Chris and Ginger Dahm at 258-8189 to give your time and talent to our school.
   
SCHOOL’S OUT FOR THE SUMMER!
The School Office will be open from 8:00am—12:00pm during June, 2006.

DAYCARE HAPPENINGS 
In addition to our two preschool programs we will offer an after school program beginning August 23rd.  Our program is not the latch key program, but rather a licensed program by the State of Ohio.  The after school age groups are: 5 -- 11 and 11 – 14.  Registrations are required for all participants, even those who were in one of our programs last year.  The forms can be obtained by visiting the school web site or by contacting the school.  Registrations were due by August 4th; please contact the Daycare as soon as possible if you are interested as space is allocated on a first come, first served basis.  For information contact Daycare at 253-0201, download the information from www.ics.cnd.pvt.k12.oh.us, or contact Bill Wagner at bwagner@ics.cnd.pvt.k12.oh.us.

PARISH REGISTRATION/CHANGE OF ADDRESS
Visitors and Friends: Welcome to Immaculate Conception Church! The only sure way to become a registered member of the parish family is to fill out a registration form (below) or a pew card; drop either in the collection basket, or return it to the rectory office. There is no automatic registration if you attend mass regularly, or even if your children attend Immaculate Conception School or Immaculate Conception Religious Education Classes. If you have any questions please call the Rectory at 252-9919.

RIGHT TO LIFE HIRING
Tri County Right to Life has numeral full and part time positions available, including two full time teachers for our abstinence until marriage program and after school coordinator for Tecumseh and South Schools; a part time Administrative Assistant; a data manager, a pre-school teacher, and others.  All positions will begin Aug. 15.  If you are interested please call Pat at (513) 845-0405.

UD LIFELONE LEARNING INSTITUTE (UDLLI)
The UD LLI offers senior adults in the Greater Miami Valley opportunities to join other seniors in a wide variety of informal discussion seminars based on the peer-learning concept.  We are now accepting registrations for our UDLLI Fall Program, which begins Sep. 11, 2006.  For more information contact the Special Programs and Continuing Education at UD, 229-2347.

SPIRITUAL DIRECTION
A 24-week course held every Tuesday from 6:30pm—9:30pm, Sep. 12—Dec. 5 will give participants the ability to become spiritual directors.  In partnership with the UD Religious Studies Dept., classical and modern understandings of spiritual growth will develop the ability for participants to walk with others on their spiritual journey.  Please call for details and course fees: Chris Bryte 426-2363, or email chrisb@bergamocenter.org.  Registration deadline is August 8.

ST. VINCENT HOTEL

The St. Vincent Hotel is in urgent need of socks, underwear, foot powder, toiletry items, and towels/washcloths.  If you can donate these items, please deliver them to 120 W. Apple St, Dayton; or call Melissa Pangaean at 461-7837.
