June 25: Basic Effective Communication with Families.  Families are the most complex biological and marital systems that one will encounter.  Emotions often run high as members in a family care for their needs and wants as well as the needs and wants of their spouse, children, and parents. Effective communication is an important part of a healthy family and well-defined boundaries and roles are often the key to successful family functioning.  This week will introduce basic effective communication strategies within families along with helpful parenting techniques that foster positive family interactions.  Handouts with practical activities and further readings will be provided.
