A YEAR OF PRAYER

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION AND PRAYER
The parish theme for the new liturgical year is “Prayer". On the first Tuesday of each month, the Church will be open for prayer and adoration from 10:00am – 7:00pm. (Adoration is not exposition or benediction; it is simply adoratory prayer before the Blessed Sacrament contained in the tabernacle, and it is powerful.) Come pray for the parish and for all parishioners; pray for peace; pray for an increase in priestly and religious vocations. We are asking a commitment of one hour per month.

FIRST SATURDAY DEVOTIONS AT I.C.

Join us each first Saturday at 8:15am for Mass, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Rosary, seasonal litany, and Benediction each First Saturday of every month beginning at 8:15 a.m. in Church. Mass, Exposition, Rosary, Seasonal Litany, and Benediction are currently celebrated Mondays through Fridays beginning at 8:15 a.m. in the Chapel, any time there is not a school mass.

VOCATION VIEWS

Jesus, the true vine, promised that if we live in him we will produce abundantly.  Look for the signs of new life in you.  Find ways to nourish your relationship with Jesus.  (John 15:1-8)

NEW MASS SCHEDULE
Both IC and St. Helen’s will offer three weekend worship opportunities.  Beginning Sunday, June 4, 2006 IC will implement the following change.  Our adjusted mass schedule will be as follows:

Saturday      5:00pm
Sunday    11:00am and 6:00pm
Holy Day      8:15am and 7:00pm

St. Helen’s mass schedule is as follows:
Saturday      5:00pm
Sunday      8:00am and 10:30am

Your tithe envelopes may be used at either parish, and will be returned to IC, your home parish.  Thank you for your continued support as we move to a new future in Region 6 with St. Helen’s Parish.

RCIA/ADULT EDUCATION
Join us for the newly redesigned RCIA/Adult Education program starting June 4 in the Madonna Library.  Fr. Tony will lead RCIA and discussion of Faith, Scripture, and Church from 9:00am – 9:40am. Jason Wheately, IC parishioner and Licensed Independent Social Worker will lead classes from 9:45am –10:40am.  Bring a notebook and your enthusiasm for topics ranging from the Catholic faith to basic communication skills to health and wellness.

CHILD PROTECTION CLASS
If you are a volunteer with children three or more hours per month, you must attend the Child Protection Class and be fingerprinted within the last year.  The next class will be held on Tuesday, May 23 at 7:00pm at the St. Luke Parish Center.  Please call St. Luke’s at 426-1733, or Charlotte Flohre at 252-9919 to register for this class.

RIGHT TO LIFE BABY SHOWER
On Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21, the Dayton Right to Life Organization will host its annual Baby Shower in the main vestibule after all masses.  For more information on how you can help, please call Janet Charles at 254-4864.

ROSARY ALTAR NOTES
THANKS to all who helped with the Rummage Sale, either by setting up, selling, tearing down, or shopping.  We made $2060!  If you are interested in joining this “young at heart rummage group”, please call Patty Slamb at 253-2477.  We really need someone to help with the toy department at the Festival.
Mark your calendars!  The next Rosary Altar meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 16 at 12:00pm in MSH.  Please bring a covered dish to share; we’ll play “Hand and Foot” after lunch.  The Rosary Altar Banquet will be held on Tuesday, June 6 at 6:30pm in MSH.  The Celtic Dancers will provide the entertainment.  Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Call Ullainee Battigaglia at 256-3765 for more information.
If you have donated food through the Marthas, please make sure you have all the dishes you dropped off for us to use---we’re getting quite a collection in the side room next to the kitchen, and we need to clear the space.  Thanks for helping with this important ministry.

FREE SPIRITS
Join us for Mass at 9:00am on Sunday, May 28; this Mass will honor deceased members of the Free Spirits.  Coffee and doughnuts will follow in MSH.
Rita Tangeman is taking reservations for the trip to Bear Creek Farms on June 12 for the Van Dells Show.  The cost is $54, which includes transportation, show, and dinner.  For more information call Rita at 433-6628.

BISHOP MOEDDEL
Many people have been concerned about Bishop Moeddel’s health.  Please know that the slight seizure he suffered a few weeks ago has been dealt with.  Bishop Moeddel has returned to health and the full exercise of his responsibilities.

UPDATE ON GUY VANASSE
Guy Vanasse, former IC Music Director, sends his best wishes to the parish, and his thanks for all your prayers.  His mother passed away on Saturday, Apr. 23, at home, with her family around her.  If you would like his address, please contact the Rectory at 252-9919.

OUTREACH
Even though the 9:00am mass will no longer be on the schedule, we will continue to provide blood pressure screenings after all of the other masses.  We hope you will continue to use this service; it’s an important tool in keeping an eye on your overall health—absolutely free.

A Common Statement of Unity for Catholic Education
The Pastors and Principals of Immaculate Conception, St. Helen’s and Ascension schools are committed to ensure that all children in these parishes have an opportunity for a Catholic Education.

Because of our commitment to work together for the future of Catholic education, we agree not to accept enrollment of students from each other’s schools until a further process of regional planning has taken place, to ensure the best plan of education possible.

Our parishes have begun collaborative discussions with one another on a number of levels to promote a strong and secure future for our children’s education.
