A YEAR OF PRAYER

FIRST SATURDAY DEVOTIONS AT I.C.
Join us each first Saturday at 8:15am for Mass, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Rosary, seasonal litany, and Benediction each First Saturday of every month beginning at 8:15 a.m. in Church. Mass, Exposition, Rosary, Seasonal Litany, and Benediction are currently celebrated Mondays through Fridays beginning at 8:15 a.m. in the Chapel, any time there is not a school mass.

FESTIVAL
Congratulations to all who worked last weekend to make our 51st Annual Parish Festival one of the best ever!  Many thanks are due especially to co-chairs (and Big Kahunas) Cindy Reaster and Julie Escobar.  They did a wonderful job chairing the Festival for the first time.  Remember the volunteer appreciation party on Saturday, Sep. 30 after 5pm Mass in the ICS auditorium.  This party is for everyone who volunteers in any capacity in the parish, school, and church.  Watch the bulletin for more information.

MINISTRY DAY

FORTIETH ANNIVERSARY
On Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, Bishop Kaising will be here to celebrate mass at the 40th anniversary of the church dedication.  A short reception follows in MSH; a luncheon follows given by Dayton Serra Club at the Engineers Club for priests and religious.  If you would like to join them, the cost is $15/person.  Call Katherine at 252-9919, or drop your reservation in the collection basket or at the Rectory during business hours.

PARTNERING
Coming to Dayton on Wednesday, Oct. 25 is Sr. Helen Prejean, Catholic activist who works in prison ministry, and central figure in the movie Dead Man Walking.  Sr. Prejean has also written The Death of Innocents, which discusses the treatment of the imprisoned poor.  In preparation of her visit, the St. Helen Book Club invites you to join them in the Big Catholic Read and discussion of that book.  Discounted copies may be prepaid and ordered through Immaculate Conception ($11.20, payable to Immaculate Conception) no later than Aug. 27.  The discussion will be held on Thursday Oct. 19 at 7:30pm in the Smith Building at St. Helen’s.  For more information, call Debbie Goldberg at 253-2647.

CONTINUED RESTORATION FUND UPDATE  Great News!  Private donors have offered us a challenging opportunity: for every dollar donated by the parish, they will match it dollar for dollar, up to $25,000.  This will make a big difference in funding our next project, which is replacing the church sound system. Total to Date  $ 24,336.00 July           $  3,037.00 Total          $ 27,373.00 EDUCATION FUND UPDATE The Education Fund currently has a matching grant program.  For every two dollars donated to the Education Fund a generous donor will match it with one dollar.  Thank you for your support and generosity to the Education Fund.  The monies currently being collected will allow IC to continue to have tuition aid available for our qualifying families in the future.  Total to Date $ 18,892.00 July          $  1,086.00 Total:        $ 19,978.00   The Restoration and Education Funds are “restricted”: they do not reflect nor impact the regular operating budget which depends on your weekly tithe contributions to the Church.

PARISH REGISTRATION/CHANGE OF ADDRESS
Visitors and Friends: Welcome to Immaculate Conception Church! The only sure way to become a registered member of the parish family is to fill out a registration form (below) or a pew card; drop either in the collection basket, or return it to the rectory office. There is no automatic registration if you attend mass regularly, or even if your children attend Immaculate Conception School or Immaculate Conception Religious Education Classes. If you have any questions please call the Rectory at 252-9919.

UD LIFELONE LEARNING INSTITUTE (UDLLI)
The UD LLI offers senior adults in the Greater Miami Valley opportunities to join other seniors in a wide variety of informal discussion seminars based on the peer-learning concept.  We are now accepting registrations for our UDLLI Fall Program, which begins Sep. 11, 2006.  For more information contact the Special Programs and Continuing Education at UD, 229-2347.

SPIRITUAL DIRECTION
A 24-week course held every Tuesday from 6:30pm—9:30pm, Sep. 12—Dec. 5 will give participants the ability to become spiritual directors.  In partnership with the UD Religious Studies Dept., classical and modern understandings of spiritual growth will develop the ability for participants to walk with others on their spiritual journey.  Please call for details and course fees: Chris Bryte 426-2363, or email chrisb@bergamocenter.org.  Registration deadline is August 8.
