PARISH NEWS

DOUGHNUT SUNDAY     (donut graphic)

The 7th and 8th grade PREP class will have doughnuts and coffee after the 11:00am mass on March 2 in the main vestibule. They will be accepting donations for Operation Rice Bowl.

PREP STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN OPERATION RICE BOWL

During the time of Lent, all of the PREP students will be participating in Operation Rice Bowl.  This is a program sponsored by Catholic Relief Services, whereby the students will find solidarity with people in need around the world.  Each student will be called to PRAY, FAST, LEARN AND GIVE.  We will be studying about other cultures and find out how our financial support helps them to overcome great obstacles.  Check out our bulletin board in the basement to find out more about this program.

ROSARY ALTAR INVITATION

All ladies of the church are invited to join the Rosary Altar Society.  This special group meets every third Tuesday of the month for games and friendship.  They also supply the wine and Eucharistic hosts for Sunday masses.  If interested, please mark an envelope for Rosary Altar Society with your name and phone number with a donation for Rosary Altar and drop it in the collection basket during mass or drop it off at the Rectory.

ST. VINCENT FOOD PANTRY

When was the last time you wondered where your next meal was coming from?  Our St. Vincent DePaul food pantry hears daily from our neighbors who are in need of food for their families.  To help keep our shelves stocked, we have placed a barrel in the main vestibule for you to drop your food and other non-perishable donations.  We appreciate all you can give…but please, we CANNOT accept items that are past their expiration dates.

CATHOLIC MINISTRIES APPEAL 2008 CAMPAIGN

Please remember to pledge your support for six of our very important regional church ministries, through the Catholic Ministries Appeal.  100% of your contribution goes to Catholic Social Services, campus ministries, lay and ordained ministries education, St. Rita School for the Deaf, support of our retired priests, and chaplains for our hospitals and prisons.  Our parish goal this year is $20,000.00.  Please visit www.catholicappeal.info for more information, and to make your pledge today.  Thank you.

THEMES FROM CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHING

CALL TO FAMILY, COMMUNITY, AND PARTICIPATION

The person is not only sacred but also social.  How we organize our society – in economics and politics, in law and policy – directly affects human dignity and the capacity of individuals to grow in community.  Marriage and family are the central social institutions that must be supported and strengthened, not undermined.  We believe people have a right and a duty to participate in society, seeking together the common good and well-being of all, especially the poor and vulnerable.

WELCOME VISITORS!

We are glad you are visiting us. For your information:

1) Restrooms are available on the lower level.

2) Hearing aides are available from the ushers.

3) Please let our parishioners near you know that you are a visitor so that they may welcome you and answer any questions that you may have.

PRAYER CHAIN

In Luke 11:9, Jesus says to us, “Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened to you.”  We encourage you to call the Prayer Chain anytime you, a friend, neighbor, or relative is in need of prayer.  We have a team of 13 people who pray daily for all the requests we receive, and we invite you to join this ministry.  Call Mary Bochenek at 256-4737 to submit a prayer request or to join the team.

TAX STATEMENTS

Due to recent changes in tax laws, beginning with contributions made in 2007, parishioners (who itemize their tax returns) will no longer be able to deduct contributions to the parish unless they maintain a bank record or written contribution statement from the parish.  If you wish to ensure deductibility of your contributions, please use a check or your parish envelope.  The parish will track contributions made using parish envelopes, and will, upon request, produce a written statement of contributions made during 2007.  Cancelled checks and other bank records are also sufficient documentation.  The parish cannot track cash contributions not in parish tithe envelopes.  If you do not have tithe envelopes, call the office at 252-9919, and we will prepare them for you.
