PARISH NEWS

CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD

Immaculate Conception Parish is in the process of starting a ministry to provide the Children’s Liturgy of the Word at the 11:00am and 6:00pm Masses.  We are looking for adults who may be interested in helping.  As leaders, we will be sharing the Mass readings from the Children’s Lectionary, and then we will help the children reflect on the scripture and what it means to them.  Resources and training will be provided.  If you are interested, please join us for our first gathering which will be after the 6:00pm Mass on March 9.  (Meet in the back of church.)  If you are not able to attend, please call the rectory and give your name and number, and someone will be glad to return your call and answer any questions.

FREE SPIRITS MEETING

The next Free Spirits meeting will be Wednesday, March 12 at 1:00pm in MSH.  The names of the officers for the new year will be announced.  Our entertainment will be Nic Murphy who plays the keyboard and sings.  The music will be geared to our generation.  Dues in the amount of $5.00 are now due for 2008.  Please bring a snack to share and a friend to join us.    The annual Officers’ Party will be on Saturday, March 29 at 6:30pm in MSH.  The price is $12.00 for dinner and entertainment by The Price Family Musicians.  You may sign up and pay for this event at the March 12 meeting.  Please call Alice Schulte at 293-8773 for more information.

SPRING CLEANING – OUR BEAUTIFUL CHURCH

Friday, March 14, will be the semi-annual “Clean the Church Day at Immaculate Conception” from 9:00am – noon.  That is when and where the action is.  We need to get Our Lord’s house ready for Easter.  At the previous church cleaning, we had 12 hardworking volunteers.  It would be great if twice that number showed up – maybe just help out for an hour – as the saying goes, “Many hands…”  SO we need YOU!  March 14 from 9:00am to noon at our church (right after morning mass).  Please bring yourself and any cleaning apparatus (Swifter) that might help.  Other supplies will be provided, but we need YOU!  Thank you.

EASTER EGG HUNT

Mark your calendars… The Easter Bunny will host our Annual Eater Egg Hunt after the 11:00am mass on Easter Sunday for children 10 years of age and younger.

PREP STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN OPERATION RICE BOWL

During the time of Lent, all of the PREP students will be participating in Operation Rice Bowl.  This is a program sponsored by Catholic Relief Services, whereby the students will find solidarity with people in need around the world.  Each student will be called to PRAY, FAST, LEARN AND GIVE.  We will be studying about other cultures and find out how our financial support helps them to overcome great obstacles.  Check out our bulletin board in the basement to find out more about this program.

ROSARY ALTAR INVITATION

All ladies of the church are invited to join the Rosary Altar Society.  This special group meets every third Tuesday of the month for games and friendship.  They also supply the wine and Eucharistic hosts for Sunday masses.  If interested, please mark an envelope for Rosary Altar Society with your name and phone number with a donation for Rosary Altar and drop it in the collection basket during mass or drop it off at the Rectory.

ST. VINCENT FOOD PANTRY

When was the last time you wondered where your next meal was coming from?  Our St. Vincent DePaul food pantry hears daily from our neighbors who are in need of food for their families.  To help keep our shelves stocked, we have placed a barrel in the main vestibule for you to drop your food and other non-perishable donations.  We appreciate all you can give…but please, we CANNOT accept items that are past their expiration dates.

CATHOLIC MINISTRIES APPEAL 2008 CAMPAIGN

Please remember to pledge your support for six of our very important regional church ministries, through the Catholic Ministries Appeal.  100% of your contribution goes to Catholic Social Services, campus ministries, lay and ordained ministries education, St. Rita School for the Deaf, support of our retired priests, and chaplains for our hospitals and prisons.  Our parish goal this year is $20,000.00.  Please visit www.catholicappeal.info for more information, and to make your pledge today.  Thank you.

THEMES FROM CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHING

RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITES

The Catholic tradition teaches that human dignity can be protected and a healthy community  can be achieved only if human rights are protected and responsibilities are met.  Therefore, every person has a fundamental right to life and a right to those things required for human decency.  Corresponding to these rights are duties and responsibilities – to one another, to our families, and to the larger society.

WELCOME VISITORS!

We are glad you are visiting us. For your information:

1) Restrooms are available on the lower level.

2) Hearing aides are available from the ushers.

3) Please let our parishioners near you know that you are a visitor so that they may welcome you and answer any questions that you may have.

PRAYER CHAIN

In Luke 11:9, Jesus says to us, “Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened to you.”  We encourage you to call the Prayer Chain anytime you, a friend, neighbor, or relative is in need of prayer.  We have a team of 13 people who pray daily for all the requests we receive, and we invite you to join this ministry.  Call Mary Bochenek at 256-4737 to submit a prayer request or to join the team.

TAX STATEMENTS

Due to recent changes in tax laws, beginning with contributions made in 2007, parishioners (who itemize their tax returns) will no longer be able to deduct contributions to the parish unless they maintain a bank record or written contribution statement from the parish.  If you wish to ensure deductibility of your contributions, please use a check or your parish envelope.  The parish will track contributions made using parish envelopes, and will, upon request, produce a written statement of contributions made during 2007.  Cancelled checks and other bank records are also sufficient documentation.  The parish cannot track cash contributions not in parish tithe envelopes.  If you do not have tithe envelopes, call the office at 252-9919, and we will prepare them for you.
