PARISH NEWS

A NEW BEGINNING
Advent and the new liturgical year begin this weekend. Immaculate Conception will offer “The Year of Grace”, with a new parish prayer written by Fr. Tony. You will find this prayer in the back of the Ritual Song hymnals, in the vestibules of the Church, and in the Rectory and School Offices.

RETIREMENT FUND FOR RELIGIOUS
Next week the second collection benefits the Retirement Fund for Religious. More than 37,000 women and men religious are now past age 70, and their institutes struggle daily with the spiraling costs of health care. Please give generously.

FREE SPIRITS
The Free Spirits Christmas party will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 1:00pm in MSH. There will be a $2 gift exchange; men, please mark your gift for a man, and women, mark your gift for a woman. Special guests include Santa and Mrs. Claus! Bring a snack and a friend to share the spirit of Christmas.

GIVING TREE
As you can see, our Giving Tree is filled with ornaments. Please take one (or more!), and purchase a gift (or gifts), keeping in mind the needs, wants, and sizes listed. Wrap the gift/s, attaching the ornament so it doesn’t disturb the paper, and place under the tree no later than Dec. 17. We will deliver the gifts AND a box full of food for a nice Christmas dinner.
There are also envelopes on the tree if you wish to make a monetary donation instead of purchasing a gift. You can return the envelope with your donation in the collection basket, to the Rectory, or place it in the box under the Giving Tree. If you have any questions, please call Ann Gibson at 427-2664.

CHRISTMAS CARD FUNDRAISER
With Christmas just around the corner, Immaculate Conception is selling hand-drawn cards designed by parishioner J.J. Leen. These beautiful cards, featuring the pregnant Madonna with a prayer written by Fr. Geraci, sell for $15 for a set of 10 cards and envelopes, and will be available for purchase in the main vestibule after all masses.

ST. VINCENT’S FOOD PANTRY
If you attend UD basketball games, check the back of the ticket for free milk coupons from Meijer’s. If you don’t use the coupon, please put it into the collection basket for our St. Vincent’s Food Pantry.

PRAYER CHAIN
In Luke 11:0, Jesus says to us, “Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened to you.” We encourage you to call the Prayer Chain anytime you, a friend, neighbor, or relative is in need of prayer. We have a team of 13 people who pray daily for all the requests we receive, and we invite you to join this ministry. Call Barb Kohlreiser at 258-0207 to submit a prayer request or to join the team.

COUNSELING ASSISTANCE FUND
The holidays can be a stressful time for those who have been harmed by sexual abuse, especially by representatives of the Church. Counseling is a vital part of the healing process for these survivors. The Counseling Assistance Fund, created by the Catholic Conference of Ohio, can help individuals who are reluctant to contact the Church for help. For more information or to submit a claim, see www.conselingassistancefund.org.

OUTREACH
When was the last time you wondered where your next meal was coming from? Our St. Vincent DePaul food pantry hears daily from our neighbors who are in need of food for their families. To help keep our shelves stocked, we have placed a barrel in the main vestibule for you to drop your food and other non-perishable donations. We appreciate all you can give…but please, we CANNOT accept items that are past their expiration dates.

GOOD NEWS FROM THE ARCHDIOCESE
*We are the seventh most vocation-rich U.S. diocese of those with more than 500,000 Catholics, according to Catholic World Report.
*Each year the Refugee Resettlement Program in Cincinnati and Dayton assists more than 100 persons seeking a new life in this country, helping them to find housing, learn English, enroll their children in school, and get a job.

CONTINUED RESTORATION FUND UPDATE
Great News! Private donors have offered us a challenging opportunity: for every dollar donated by the parish, they will match it dollar for dollar, up to $25,000. This will make a big difference in funding our next project: replacing the church sound system, including baffles, rewiring, acoustical adjustments, tiles, etc.

Total to Date $ 36,255.57
November $ 2,935.50
Total $ 39,191.07

EDUCATION FUND UPDATE
The Education Fund currently has a matching grant program. For every two dollars donated to the Education Fund, a generous donor will match it with one dollar. Thank you for your support and generosity extended to the Education Fund. The monies currently being collected will allow IC to continue to have tuition aid available for our qualifying families in the future.

Total to Date $ 23,686.57
November 1,229.50
Total: $ 24,916.07

The Restoration and Education Funds are “restricted”: they do not reflect nor affect the regular operating budget which depends on your weekly tithe contributions to the Church.

ALTAR FLOWERS
If you would like to commemorate a special event or person with altar flowers, please contact Katherine at the Rectory at 252-9919.

SCHOOL NEWS
Looking for a great gift idea? Entertainment Books for 2007 will be sold after all masses each weekend in December. If you’re a theatre fan, the La Comedia coupon in the book is “buy one ticket, get one free”—a deal which more than pays for the book itself! For information call Betty Mueller at 253-7275.

DAYTON DEANERY SCHOOL COLLABORATIVE
The Dayton Deanery School Collaborative (DDSC) is a collaborative effort of pastors, principals, local leadership, and the Catholic Schools Office for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. A Think Tank was established with representatives for the community to advise and assist in the planning for our schools.
A collaborative model for Catholic schools in the Dayton Deanery has emerged and now the DDSC wants local insights. In the coming months, a series of focus and forum groups will be presented for teachers, parish councils, education commissions, school boards, parents, and parishioners. We encourage and welcome your participation at one of the forums, where you will have the opportunity to evaluate the proposed model through a survey after hearing the details and discussion points at the forum. Dates of meetings are: Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 7:00pm at Ascension School, Room 118; Saturday, Dec. 9 at 9:00am at Bishop Leibold School Cafeteria; Thursday, Dec. 14 at 7:00pm at St. Rita Church, Lampe Hall.

PARISH REGISTRATION/CHANGE OF ADDRESS
Visitors and Friends: Welcome to Immaculate Conception Church! The only sure way to become a registered member of the parish family is to fill out a registration form (below) or a pew card; drop either in the collection basket, or return it to the rectory office. There is no automatic registration if you attend mass regularly, or even if your children attend Immaculate Conception School or Immaculate Conception Religious Education Classes. If you have any questions please call the Rectory at 252-9919.

OUT OF PARISH

CHS OPEN HOUSE
Parents of 8th graders are invited to attend the Carroll High School Open House on Monday, Dec. 4 at 7:00pm in the gym. A brief presentation will be followed by a tour of the school, and administrators, faculty, counselors, and students will be available to answer your questions. This is a great opportunity to learn about the many programs that are available to Carroll students. For more information call 253-3338.

ADORATION FOR VOCATIONS
If you know someone considering the priesthood, help our Church increase the number of men called to Holy Orders. Please join us to implore the Lord in the most Blessed Sacrament to help those he is calling draw closer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and discern their vocation. The Holy Hour will involve the Eucharistic Exposition, Benediction, and prayer for priestly vocations. These special services will be held on the Fridays in Advent: Dec. 8, 15, and 22, from 6:00pm – 7:00pm at St. Peter in Chains Cathedral.
