Join us at 8:15am for Mass, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Rosary, seasonal litany, and Benediction each First Saturday of every month.  Mass, Exposition, Rosary, Seasonal Litany, and Benediction are currently celebrated Mondays through Fridays beginning at 8:15 a.m. in the Chapel.

MISSION SUNDAY
The Missionaries of St. Charles – Scalabrinians, founded by Bishop John Baptist Scalabrini in 1887, is a worldwide Religious Order of priests and brothers with the specific mission to assist in the spiritual and social needs of migrants and refugees.  The Scalabrinians serve migrants of many different ethnic backgrounds in thirty nations around the world.  Their apostolate ranges from multiethnic parishes to centers for migration studies, from refugee camps to chaplaincy for seasonal workers, from radio and television programs to legal conferences. 
    The gospels reveal the compassion Jesus had for all people; he answered the question, “Who is my neighbor?” with the parable of the Good Samaritan, showing that any person in need falls within our scope of responsibility.  The Scalabrinians will preach the Annual Mission Appeal next weekend, and they seek your support to continue their ministry to migrants and refugees.

FIRST COMMUNION
If you would like your child to receive the sacraments of First Communion and First Reconciliation in May 2007, please call Karen Connair at 252-2323 for a registration form and a calendar of events for the year.  The first session for parents and children will be Monday, Nov. 6 at 6:30pm in MSH.

ST. VINCENT HOTEL
On the weekend prior to the last Wednesday of each month, we ask our parishioners to help support the St. Vincent Hotel for the homeless in Dayton by providing a meal to be given on the fourth Wednesday of each month.  We need a minimum of 22 casseroles, 14 cans of vegetables, and 12 batches of cookies to send to the Hotel.  In August and September, we received 36 casseroles, 12 cans of vegetables, 18 batches of cookies, and $114 in cash.  We appreciate all contributions, but we do need more people to help us feed the less fortunate at St. Vincent Hotel.  Our donations are down, and there are more needs to be met.  If you have any questions, please call Carm Duckro at 252-8448.

NOVEMBER VESPERS
IC will hold its Annual Vespers Service on Nov. 2, at 7:00pm.  If you lost a loved one during the past year, you are welcome to light a candle in their honor.  Please call the Rectory at 252-9919 to submit a name, or call Julie Wetzel at 252-2098 if you have questions.

ROSARY ALTAR
By now you’ve heard about the Rummage Sale and Bake Sale on Saturday, Nov. 4.  Now is the time for all parishioners to come to the aid of their church and donate all those many, many items you no longer need or use.  You know, one person’s trash is another person’s treasure.  For more information call Patty Slamb at 253-2477.

“A NIGHT UNDER THE STARS”

PARTNERING: REAL LIFE QUESTIONS; the series
Ascension, Immaculate Conception, and St. Helen’s Parishes are sponsoring a series of interesting discussions at 7:30pm on Tuesday nights. The topic for Tuesday, Nov. 14 is “How Do I Know God’s Will?”, and it will be held at the Ascension Witzman Center (in the church basement).  For reservations call Jim Murray at 253-1997.  In February, Fr. Chris Worland will present “Why Do I Have to Tell My Sins to a Priest?”, also in the Witzman Center.

OUTREACH
FLU SHOTS will again be given here on Wednesday, Oct 25 from 11:00am—1:00pm.  There is no charge for Medicare subscribers; for all others the charge is $28.  You must be 18 years or older to receive the shot.  This service is sponsored in connection with the Visiting Nurses’ Association of Montgomery County.  For more information call Rita Moorman at 252-2554, or sign up in the main vestibule after Mass.

CONTINUED RESTORATION FUND UPDATE  Great News!  Private donors have offered us a challenging opportunity: for every dollar donated by the parish, they will match it dollar for dollar, up to $25,000.  This will make a big difference in funding our next project, which is replacing the church sound system. Total to Date  $ 30,461.00 September      $  3,301.00 Total          $ 33,762.00 EDUCATION FUND UPDATE The Education Fund currently has a matching grant program.  For every two dollars donated to the Education Fund a generous donor will match it with one dollar.  Thank you for your support and generosity to the Education Fund.  The monies currently being collected will allow IC to continue to have tuition aid available for our qualifying families in the future.  Total to Date $ 21,267.00 September     $  1,403.00 Total:        $ 22,670.00   The Restoration and Education Funds are “restricted”: they do not reflect nor impact the regular operating budget which depends on your weekly tithe contributions to the Church.

The Uncommon Coffeehouse returns to St. Helen Parish on Tuesday, Oct 17 at 7:30pm in the Smith Bldg.  Mark Friedman and Janet Vogt will do their professional musical thing and you can groove to the cool sounds with a cup of java – caf or no caf.  Candlelit tables, live astounding religious music to soothe the weary soul.  We can only accommodate 100 folks, so preregistration is required.  Call 256-8818 and get your name on the list.  Questions?  Call Joan at 256-8818. MINISTRY EVENING

CELEBRATE…

COME AND SEE RETREAT

40TH ANNIVERSARY MASS
We celebrated our 40th Anniversary of the church dedication last Sunday.  Bishop John Kaising’s homily recapped Immaculate Conception’s past and had a sincere appreciation for our future generations.  To those who attended, and those who volunteered to get this celebration ready in time, THANK YOU for your gifts of time, talent, and treasure.

BETHLEHEM ARTWORKS
Today, more than 600 Christian families living in Bethlehem rely on the hand-carved olive wood figures for their income.  The recent clashes in the Middle East have caused serious harm to these families, forcing them to flee their homeland. In an effort to find alternative sources of income and help local handicraft artists, the Bethlehem Nativity Olive Wood is here this weekend to sell their beautiful olive wood figures.  All income goes directly to the families who produce the items.  Check out their wares in the main vestibule after all masses.

FREE SPIRITS

PRAYER CHAIN
We encourage you to call the prayer chain anytime you, a friend, neighbor, or relative is in need of prayer.  We have a team of 13 people who pray daily for all the requests we receive.  In Luke 11:9, Jesus says to us, “Ask and you shall receive; seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened to you.”  If you would like to join this ministry, or if you have a prayer request, please call Barb Kohlreiser at 258-0207, between noon and 8:00pm.

FREE CONCERT
Precious Blood Church is hosting a concert by the University of Notre Dame Glee Club on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 7:00pm in the Church.  Admission is free, but a free-will offering will be taken to help defray expenses.  This is a wonderful opportunity for our local community and a great family event as well.   Please join us!

COFFEE HOUSE
The Uncommon Coffeehouse returns to St. Helen Parish on Tuesday, Oct 17 at 7:30pm in the Smith Bldg.  Mark Friedman and Janet Vogt will do their professional musical thing and you can groove to the cool sounds with a cup of java – caf or no caf.  Candlelit tables, live astounding religious music to soothe the weary soul.  We can only accommodate 100 folks, so preregistration is required.  Call 256-8818 and get your name on the list.  Questions?  Call Joan at 256-8818. MINISTRY EVENING
On Wednesday, Oct 18, Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Cincinnati will host a Ministry Evening for men in their 20s, 30s, or 40s who are interested in the priesthood.  Those attending will learn what life is like as a seminarian and priest.  The event begins are 5:00pm and ends at 8:30pm.  To register, call the Vocation Office at (513) 421-3131, or www.cincinnativocations.org by Tuesday, Oct. 17.

DAYTON CATHOLIC WOMEN’S CLUB
The DCWC will hold its annual Day of Recollection on Saturday, Oct. 14 at St. Peter’s Church in Huber Heights from 9:30am—2:15pm.  The topic is “Covenant from the Old and New Testaments”, presented by Sr. Virgine Elking, Sister of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood.  Cost is $12/person.  For more information call Betty Chadwell at 256-9516.

COME AND SEE RETREAT

BETHLEHEM ARTWORKS
Today, more than 600 Christian families living in Bethlehem rely on the hand-carved olive wood figures for their income.  The recent clashes in the Middle East have caused serious harm to these families, forcing them to flee their homeland. In an effort to find alternative sources of income and help local handicraft artists, the Bethlehem Nativity Olive Wood will be here next weekend, Oct. 7/8, to sell their beautiful olive wood figures.  All income goes directly to the families who produce the items.  Check out their wares in the main vestibule after all masses.

DO YOU LIKE TO SING??
The Saturday 5:00pm Folk Choir is always open to new members.  We meet from 3:45pm –4:45pm on Saturdays, and for 90 minutes during the week.  If you are interested in joining us, stop by after Saturday mass or call Laurie Eloe at 374-2015.  No experience is necessary, and we welcome singers and instrumentalists who are in the 5th grade through Free Spirits age. Or join the Sunday morning choir.  Rehearsals are on Sundays at 9:15am with sung mass at 11:00am.

PRAYER CHAIN
We encourage you to call the prayer chain anytime you, a friend, neighbor, or relative is in need of prayer.  We have a team of 13 people who pray daily for all the requests we receive.  In Luke 11:9, Jesus says to us, “Ask and you shall receive; seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened to you.”  If you would like to join this ministry, or if you have a prayer request, please call Barb Kohlreiser at 258-0207, between noon and 8:00pm.

OUTREACH

• FLU SHOTS will again be given here on Wednesday, Oct 25 from 11:00am—1:00pm.  There is no charge for Medicare subscribers; for all others the charge is $28.  You must be 18 years or older to receive the shot.  This service is sponsored in connection with the Visiting Nurses’ Association of Montgomery County.  For more information call Rita Moorman at 252-2554.
• When was the last time you wondered where your next meal was coming from?  Our St. Vincent DePaul food pantry hears daily from our neighbors who are in need of food for their families.  To help keep our shelves stocked, we have placed a barrel in the main vestibule for you to drop your food and other non-perishable donations.  We appreciate all you can give…but please, we CANNOT accept items that are past their expiration dates.

St. Helen’s Church will offer a CHILD PROTECTION CLASS on Tuesday, Oct. 10 from 12:00pm –1:00pm in the Rectory.  If you haven’t been able to attend an evening session we hope we’ll see you at this one. SPREAD THE WORD!
All are invited to a free showing of the movie, “Dead Man Walking”, at 7:00pm on Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Page Manor Cinema on Airway Road.  The movie is based on the true story of a convicted murderer on death row and Sr. Helen Prejean, who befriends him.  It addresses a controversial issue with an intensely personal look at the people involved.  Regardless of how you feel about the death penalty, you shouldn’t miss this film!  This showing is through the partnering efforts of Ascension, Immaculate, and St. Helen Parishes.


STEWARDSHIP
The great violinist Nicolo Paganini willed his marvelous violin to the city of Genoa on the condition that it must be never again be played, because wood when used and handled, wears slightly.  When not used, it begins to decay…so the violin has become worm-eaten and useless.  It is only a reminder that a life withdrawn from service to others becomes quite useless.

CONTINUED RESTORATION FUND UPDATE  Great News!  Private donors have offered us a challenging opportunity: for every dollar donated by the parish, they will match it dollar for dollar, up to $25,000.  This will make a big difference in funding our next project, which is replacing the church sound system. Total to Date  $ 27,373.00 August         $  3,088.00 Total          $ 30,461.00 EDUCATION FUND UPDATE The Education Fund currently has a matching grant program.  For every two dollars donated to the Education Fund a generous donor will match it with one dollar.  Thank you for your support and generosity to the Education Fund.  The monies currently being collected will allow IC to continue to have tuition aid available for our qualifying families in the future.  Total to Date $ 19,978.00 August        $  1,289.00 Total:        $ 21,267.00   The Restoration and Education Funds are “restricted”: they do not reflect nor impact the regular operating budget which depends on your weekly tithe contributions to the Church.

LEAVING A LEGACY
Immaculate Conception Parish has thrived as a community of faith since 1938.  We thank God for the many women, men, priests and religious who have left legacies for our Catholic school, churches, education, spiritual and social services.  Now it is our turn, and we pray that we will be as generous as our forbearers in our service and ministry to future Catholics.  The idea of generational planning and giving has always been essential to the life and success of the Church and its members.  Please give a gift that keeps on giving.

The ICS PTO is selling Entertainment 2007 savings books for only $25 each!  This is the ONLY parish group selling these books, which will earn money for many special PTO projects.  They make great birthday and Christmas gifts, and help our local economy AND our school at the same time.
