WINNER’S CIRCLE PROGRAM CHANGES

Winner’s Circle program will follow a new program guideline beginning November 1, 2007.  The new format will consist of the numbers for Winner’s Circle being pulled by committee members on Sunday evenings for the upcoming week.  The numbers will then be posted in the church main vestibule on the Winner’s Circle board.  Each ticket sold after the first of the month will be sold in a sealed envelope.  Tickets are available at the parish rectory office, after mass the last weekend of each month or from individual sellers throughout the parish community.  Sellers – please place all ticket stubs in an envelope marked Winner’s Circle when returning them to the rectory office.  Thank you for your continued support of the Winner’s Circle program.

 

WORLD MISSION SUNDAY

Thank you for your generosity on World Mission Sunday!  Our parish offered $1,539.00 to the Propagation of the Faith for the missionary work of the Church.  This is a real blessing for the Missions!  Please continue to pray for the missionaries – and for the people to whom they bring the “Good News” of Jesus.  May God bless you for your generous missionary spirit.

 

EVENSONG

Parishioners who have lost a loved one since November 1, 2006, who have not been buried from Immaculate Conception, but would like to be included in the Vespers service November 2, please contact the rectory at 252-9919 and give name of deceased, date of death, and the family member’s information.  All other parishioners who have buried family or loved ones from Immaculate Conception are included in the memorial Vespers service.  Please arrive before 7:00pm on Friday, November 2, 2007 in the church.

 

FALL RUMMAGE SALE

The annual Fall Rummage Sale will be on Saturday, November 10 from 9:00am to 4:00pm.  Donations will be taken in on Wednesday, November 7 through Friday, November 10 from 10:00am to 6:00pm.  Please bring items down the ramp behind the church into the basement.  All appliances must be in working order, no soiled or torn furniture, typewriters, and computers.  St. Vincent will take them if they are not sold, unless they are damaged or not in working order.  Any questions, please call Patty at 253-2477.

 

BAKE AND CRAFT SALE

The annual Bake and Craft Sale will also be on Saturday, November 10 in the choir room.  Donations will be taken on Friday, November 9 from noon to 6:00pm.  Please bring all cakes, pies, candy, cookies, cupcakes or any other delicious items and Christmas crafts to the choir room.  All parishioners are invited to bring items and to shop!!  Any questions, please call Alice at 293-8773.

 

ITE MISSA EST

Immaculate Conception Church Adult Faith Formation Ministry presents “Making Ends Meet” on Wednesday, November 14 from 7:00pm-8:30pm in MSH.  Speaker, Terry W. Pellegrino, Assistant V.P. Bank Manager, will be discussing finance management for Christians.

 

VOTE FOR HUMAN SERVICES LEVY NOVEMBER 6

The Human Services Levy, Issue 20, is on the November 6 ballot for renewal.  This levy provides the funds to care for Montgomery County’s most vulnerable citizens and for those families who have nowhere else to turn.  By voting for the levy, you will be providing funds for over 50 human service agencies.  Here is a brief listing of those agencies affected…

RECLAIMING FUTURES

Each year 6,000 to 8,000 youth enter Montgomery County Juvenile Court.  Between 60-80% of them are likely to be involved with drugs and alcohol, yet most are not getting the help they need to break their addiction.  Become part of  Montgomery County Juvenile Court’s initiative, “Reclaiming Futures” by volunteering to become a mentor to court-involved youth and their families.  You can help provide them with guidance, support and encouragement for positive lifestyle changes.  To volunteer, please call Charlotte D. BLOOD DRIVE COORDINATOR

IC Community Blood Drive is in need of a Blood Drive Coordinator.  The blood drive occurs every eight weeks with minimal commitment and lifesaving rewards.  For more information or to volunteer, please call Tracy Morgan at 461-3254.

 

ORGANIST NEEDED

The position of Liturgical Organist is now open at Immaculate Conception.  Candidates should have pipe organ proficiency skills, choral direction, a good knowledge of liturgy and a deep sense of dedication to the Church.  Please submit resumes to Fr. NEED FOR TEEN WORKERS

Knights of Columbus  is looking for teens to work a Christmas Dinner at Mangan Hall on Saturday, December 8 from 4:00pm to 12:00am.  Teens must be 16-18 years old with own transportation.  Workers will be paid $70 for the entire evening.  Please contact Jack Glaser at 648-9242 or 475-1211 if interested.

 

CHILD PROTECTION CLASS

The next Child Protection Class will be on Monday, November 5, 2007 at 7:00pm at St. Anthony Church inside the Franciscan Center.

 

OUTREACH EVENTS

 When was the last time you wondered where your next meal was coming from?  Our St. Vincent DePaul food pantry hears daily from our neighbors who are in need of food for their families.  To help keep our shelves stocked, we have placed a barrel in the main vestibule for you to drop your food and other non-perishable donations.  We appreciate all you can give…but please, we CANNOT accept items that are past their expiration dates.

 

ST. VINCENT HOTEL SEPTEMBER MEAL

St. Vincent hotel received $204.00 in cash donations that was used to purchase 6 lasagna casseroles costing $48.94, leaving a balance of $155 that will be used for future purchases as needed.  St. Vincent also received donations of 19 casseroles and 24 canned goods.  Please remember the hotel by making a casserole or buying a canned vegetable or fruit.  The next sign-ups will be on October 27-28 in the main vestibule.  Thank you for your support and keep up the good work.

PRAYER CHAIN

In Luke 11:9, Jesus says to us, “Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened to you.”  We encourage you to call the Prayer Chain anytime you, a friend, neighbor, or relative is in need of prayer.  We have a team of 13 people who pray daily for all the requests we receive, and we invite you to join this ministry.  Call Mary Bochenek at 256-4737 to submit a prayer request or to join the team.

 

TAX STATEMENTS

Due to recent changes in tax laws, beginning with contributions made in 2007, parishioners (who itemize their tax returns) will no longer be able to deduct contributions to the parish unless they maintain a bank record or written contribution statement from the parish.  If you wish to ensure deductibility of your contributions, please use a check or your parish envelope.  The parish will track contributions made using parish envelopes, and will, upon request, produce a written statement of contributions made during 2007.  Cancelled checks and other bank records are also sufficient documentation.  The parish cannot track cash contributions not in parish tithe envelopes.  If you do not have tithe envelopes, call the office at 252-9919, and we will get them ready for you.

CONTINUED RESTORATION FUND UPDATE 

Our next project is replacing the church sound system including the baffles.  The preliminary estimates are between $140,000.00--$160,000.00.  Phase one of this project will be the removal of the old baffles; includes brickwork and installation of the new baffles. Phase two will be the removal of the old sound system, new wiring and installation of the new equipment.  Please continue your generosity.

EDUCATION FUND UPDATE

The Education Fund matching grant program has been renewed.  For every two dollars donated to the Education Fund, a generous donor will match it with one dollar.  Thank you for your support and generosity extended to the Education Fund.  The monies currently being collected will allow IC to have tuition aid available for our qualifying families in the future. We begin new with the fiscal year for the following year.

ICS report cards go home with students on Monday, October 29.

 

Mrs. Peg Barnhart has joined the school staff as the new music teacher.  She will be teaching two music classes per grade each week, leading the children’s choir and directing the music for the Friday Mass.  Welcome Mrs. Barnhart!

 

School is closed Thursday, November 1 and Friday, November 2.

 

Students who plan to attend Alter or C-J for the 2008-09 school year must take the placement test held on Saturday, November 17.  Registration for testing is required.

 

As a reminder, school uniform pants, or sweatpants over gym shorts, must be worn beginning November 1.

 

OUT OF PARISH

 

LATIN MASSES

A Latin Mass will be said at Our Lady of the Rosary Church (Old North Dayton) on All Saints’ Day, Thursday, November 1 at 7:00pm.  On All Souls’ Day, Friday, November 2, three Latin Masses will be said at 7:30am, 8:00am, and 12:00pm at Our Lady of the Rosary.

 

ST. MARY FISH FRY

St. Mary’s Fish Fry will take place on Friday, November 2 with doors opening at 6:00pm.  Fish, fries, whistleberries, sausage, and cole slaw will be served for $10.  Carry-outs are also available for $7 from 5:00pm-6:00pm.  For tickets, please contact St. Mary’s rectory at 256-5633.

 

STEEL MAGNOLIAS

Plan an evening out with friends and see former students perform in Chaminade-Julienne’s fall play, “Steel Magnolias” on Thursday, November 1 and Saturday, November 3 at 7:30pm inside CJ’s auditorium.  Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students.  7th and 8th grade students call 461-3740 ext. 249 to reserve a free ticket!

 

ST. ANTHONY’S CHILD CARE

ST. CHARLES HOLIDAY ART & CRAFT FAIR

St. Charles will be having their holiday fair on Saturday, November 10 from 9:00am-3:00pm in the school cafeteria featuring homemade arts and crafts, raffle, baked goods, lunch items and beverages, pictures with Santa, face painting, and cookie decorating.  Other parish vendors please call Lisa Singer at 293-9444 for table reservations.

 

HEBREW AND CHRISTIAN SCRIPTURE

Participants in this class will gain a basic understanding of contemporary Catholic biblical criticism and also an understanding  of the major themes of the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures.  Joan Dunn will be facilitating these classes on October 30, and November 6 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at St. Christopher Parish, 435 E. National Road, Vandalia.  Cost is $30.  To register for one of these dates, please call 223-4075.

 

IMMIGRATION: A CATHOLIC PERSPECTIVE

What is the position and role of the Catholic Church on the issue of immigration?  Cori Thibodeau, Regional Director of the Catholic Social Action Office, will invite you to consider this as she presents a Catholic perspective on this timely topic.  What is the church teaching on immigration?  What are the myths and realities?  What is the current state of legislation?  Join us on Monday, October 29 at 7:30pm at St. Helen’s Parish in the Smith Building.  Please call 254-6233 if you plan to attend.

OUTREACH EVENTS

The cold and flu season is fast upon us and the Senior Resource Connection Visiting Home Care is offering flu shots at Immaculate Conception in MSH on Tuesday, October 23 from 9:00am to 11:00am. ST. VINCENT HOTEL SEPTEMBER MEAL

St. Vincent hotel received $204.00 in cash donations that was used to purchase 6 lasagna casseroles costing $48.94, leaving a balance of $155 that will be used for future purchases as needed. St. Vincent also received donations of 19 casseroles and 24 canned goods. Please remember the hotel by making a casserole or buying a canned vegetable or fruit. FALL RUMMAGE SALE

The annual Fall Rummage Sale will be on Saturday, November 10 from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Donations will be taken in on Wednesday, November 7 through Friday, November 10 from 10:00am to 6:00pm. CONTINUED RESTORATION FUND UPDATE

Our next project is replacing the church sound system including the baffles. The preliminary estimates are between $140,000.00--$160,000.00. Phase one of this project will be the removal of the old baffles; includes brickwork and installation of the new baffles. HUGE GARAGE SALE

Twin Towers Place is holding a huge garage sale and lunch stand on Saturday, October 27 and Sunday, October 28 from 9:00am-4:00pm inside McBride Hall at 250 Allen St. The Seniors and their families residing in the low to moderate income independent apartment complex for senior citizens have donated items and food for the sale to make money for their Activity Fund. The Education Fund matching grant program has been renewed. For every two dollars donated to the Education Fund, a generous donor will match it with one dollar. Thank you for your support and generosity extended to the Education Fund. The monies currently being collected will allow IC to have tuition aid available for our qualifying families in the future. We begin new with the fiscal year for the following year.

SOWING CIRCLE UPDATE
The Sowing Circle will use the Mission Driven Parish by Fr. Pat Brennan as a framework for creating “contemplative conversations” around some of the issues and principles involved in developing and leading parishes that help people live out their call to authentic discipleship. The first session meets Tuesday, October 16 at Trinity Center from 9:30am to 11:30am.

HEBREW AND CHRISTIAN SCRIPTURE
Participants in this class will gain a basic understanding of contemporary Catholic biblical criticism and also an understanding of the major themes of the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures. Joan Dunn will be facilitating these classes on October 16, 23, 30, and November 6 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at St. Christopher Parish, 435 E. National Road, Vandalia. Cost is $30. HOMELESSNESS
John Carr from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops will be at Incarnation Parish on Monday, October 22 to discuss the efforts and priorities of the bishops around social justice, as well as provide insight into the work of parish social ministry.

DEACON FORMATION PROGRAM

ART EXHIBITION
Brother Joseph Barrish’s art exhibition, “Dayton: In and Out”, will be at the Gallery Saint John, 4400 Shakertown Road, Dayton through November 22. ST. RITA PARISH HOMECOMING
All former parishioners and school alumni are invited to join St. Rita Parish in celebrating the 85th anniversary of the parish founding and the 40th anniversary of the church dedication. Both anniversaries will be celebrated on Saturday, October 27 starting with the 4:30pm Mass followed by a dinner and dance.
