WORLD MISSION SUNDAY

The Mission Office of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati thanks you on behalf of our 1,150 mission dioceses for your contribution to the Holy Father’s Society for the Propagation of the Faith on World Mission Sunday this past October.  The sacrifice you made helps to spread the :good News: of Jesus where many truly hunger for the Eucharist, peace, joy and hope.  Please check this website to see how your donation makes a difference:  www.worldmissions-catholiccincinnati.org.  Immaculate Conception Church donated $1,926.00 in 2007.  Thank you for your generosity.

We received so generously from the parish $804.21, which will cover the cost of gloves (140 pairs and still shopping), 80# of pork loin, 80 pounds of potatoes, and sauerkraut.  The meal will be eaten on New Year’s Day.

PARISH FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITY

Fifth-Third Bank is donating $15 to the Parish for every new checking or savings account opened with a minimum deposit of $50.  Flyers are available in the main vestibule.  This opportunity is available to all families and friends of Immaculate Conception.  Just take a flyer in with you and mention I.C. Michelle Gross (258-1262) would be glad to assist you at Breitenstrater Square.

WELCOME VISITORS!

We are glad you are visiting us. For your information:

1) Restrooms are available on the lower level.

2) Hearing aides are available from the ushers.

3) Please let our parishioners near you know that you are a visitor so that they may welcome you and answer any questions that you may have.

PRAYER CHAIN

In Luke 11:9, Jesus says to us, “Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened to you.”  We encourage you to call the Prayer Chain anytime you, a friend, neighbor, or relative is in need of prayer.  We have a team of 13 people who pray daily for all the requests we receive, and we invite you to join this ministry.  Call Mary Bochenek at 256-4737 to submit a prayer request or to join the team.

TAX STATEMENTS

Due to recent changes in tax laws, beginning with contributions made in 2007, parishioners (who itemize their tax returns) will no longer be able to deduct contributions to the parish unless they maintain a bank record or written contribution statement from the parish.  If you wish to ensure deductibility of your contributions, please use a check or your parish envelope.  The parish will track contributions made using parish envelopes, and will, upon request, produce a written statement of contributions made during 2007.  Cancelled checks and other bank records are also sufficient documentation.  The parish cannot track cash contributions not in parish tithe envelopes.  If you do not have tithe envelopes, call the office at 252-9919, and we will get them ready for you.

WORD OF LIFE

He became a child, so that the Word could be grasped by us.  In this way God teaches us to love the little ones.  In this way he teaches us to love the weak.  In this way he teaches us respect for children.  The child of Bethlehem directs our gaze towards all children who suffer and are abused in the world, the born and the unborn.  Towards children who are placed as soldiers in a violent world; towards children who have to beg; towards children who suffer deprivation and hunger; towards children who are unloved.  In all of these it is the Child of Bethlehem who is crying out to us; it is the God who has become small who appeals to us.  Let us pray this night that the brightness of God’s love may enfold all these children.  Let us ask God to help us do our part so that the dignity of children may be respected.  (Pope Benedict XVI, Homily, Midnight Mass, Christmas 2006)

(Please box in all Stewardship items together, from “Grateful believers” through the Education Fund.  Thanks!)

The Parish and Staff of Immaculate Conception Church wish you all a Merry Christmas!

I … decisively support you in your political efforts to favor conditions enabling young couples to raise children.  Yet all this will be pointless, unless we can succeed in creating once again in our countries a climate of joy and confidence in life, a climate in which children are not seen as a burden, but rather as a gift for all.  (Benedict XVI, Address to Authorities and Diplomatic Corps, Vienna, September 7, 2007)

OUT OF PARISH

LONGEST NIGHT PRAYER SERVICE

Are you finding it difficult to enjoy the Christmas season, due to a loved one’s death, unemployment, illness, broken relationship, deployment, or any other loss?  You are invited to join the Ascension parish community for a special prayer service on Wednesday, December 19 at 7:00pm.  Through prayer, Scripture, and music, we will acknowledge that God’s presence is for those who hurt as well as those who celebrate – and that God’s Word comes to shine light in our deepest darkness.  Please invite others to come with you, as your support, or if you know of others who are hurting, please let them know that they are most welcome.  The service will be followed by a time for light refreshments and fellowship, or you may continue in private prayer in the chapel.  Ascension Church is located at 2025 Woodman Drive in Kettering.
